Another GM recall. Most SUV owners warned not to park the affected SUVs in their garages. Window switches can cause an interior fire and burn up the vehicle/house. Enough switch replacements wont be available till October. Dealers are not to sell any (new or used) affected SUVs till they have been repaired
I've been hearing about this particular problem for over a year. I see that they've expanded the scope of the recall. I say that because I used to have a 2004 Trailblazer, and was waiting for them to announce that mine was affected. Never happened.
This is not a new recall, it is just an updated procedure. We have been doing this recall for over a year now. Originally GM wanted the technician to remove the switch, remove the "contact sheet", replace with new contact sheet, and apply liberal amounts of water proof grease, as the issue is from corrosion due to water leakage. In this same bulletin the technician is giving the option to replace the switch or rebuild it, our technicians replaced the switches rather than rebuild, because the fix is useless. As for all the GM recalls, the company is getting very gun shy (as they should be), and the public is watching every move they make. By next year this will all be forgotten, and a new automaker will be under the microscope, Toyota 2-3 years ago.
This is a NEW recall...not to fix or jerry rig the switch like tried already...but to replace them with a different designed one. Im glad theyre picking on GM. They got the bailout from Obuma that they will never ever pay back because they dont have to. They deserve everything thrown at them. Ill chalk it up to another of Obumas dismal failures.
I started the thread to alert owners of which I know a lot on here have them. I didnt start it to get into another shouting war with people here who just want to argue about anything thats posted on any subject. The recall was issued the other day...thereby making it a new recall and has nothing to do with what was a year ago...even if its about the same junk part. If they dont want water running down on the switches, dont put them mounted flat, face up on the door where theyre likely to get wet. As an engineer, Id put them in the console, dash or overhead...out of the way. I never had a problem, but the Sebrings were flat on the door panel and you always got them wet if it was raining or drizzling at a drivethru, or simply getting in or out of the car in the rain...poor thought to me.
