Bought a new cordless drill and impact. Actually traded an old (very low use and nice) Honda self propelled mower for a new in the box Milwaukee drill and impact set with 2 batteries. Good deal for both of us.

So my old cordless is still not the worst. Hitachi. Quite a few years old but have 2 batteries and they still hold a fair charge yet. The plastic on the key-less chuck had cracked. Put it on Craig's list for $20. No replies. So I went on eBay and for $9 (with shipping) got a nice new replacement Ryobi key-less drill chuck. What a deal. So time to take the old drill chuck off. Do you think I could get the screw inside loose. Nope. Determined to get it done no matter what I started hacking up the old chuck with my large die grinder and a thin cut off wheel. After a good length of time finally got to where the screw was total exposed. Grabbed it with a vice grips and started to turn it. ??? WTH? Left hand thread. All that effort for nothing had I thought that it might have a left hand threaded screw. Lesson learned. I should have known better.

Back on aBay and ordered a new left hand drill chuck screw. Oh well. Screw only cost $3.50 with shipping. I'll either keep it or try to maybe get $50 for it on Craig's list.

We've all been there... Most without that much effort though.

"Learn from other people's mistakes. You won't have enough time to make them all yourself."

Thanks for the warning. I made the same mistake trying to remove the fan from my dryer motor.
