I have an SSD that has Linux OS on it (nothing else). When I plug it into my computer (via either my crappy Thermaltake doohickey or a regular external enclosure), it doesn't show up in Windows Explorer but it DOES (sort of) show up in Disk Management. It DOESN'T show a drive letter nor does it give me any way to format it. When I try to backup my OS HDD to it, it doesn't show up so I can't back up to it.

I'm sure I'm just missing something simple but I can't figure it out. What do I need to do?

That's normal, windows don't be looking that kind of File system, mon.

You should be able to format it

http://superuser.com/questi...linux-inside-windows

Or use diskpart
http://www.sevenforums.com/...iskpart-command.html

Have fun

The only option I get when I right click on it (in disk management) is "Delete...".

EDIT: I clicked on "Delete..." then I was able to format the SSD. Backing up my OS HDD to the SSD now.

Thanks!

If you *could* see your files from windows out of the box, i would be concerned. There are some add-on tools to let you do that.. what file system did you use when you installed it?

Honestly, I don't know. I stuck it in my tower, installed Ubuntu, pulled the Win OS disk and rebooted the computer. This time, when I deleted the drive, I formatted it into a simple drive with NTFS.
