I've gained a lot of respect for him watching the show.
This is saying a lot, for what it's worth anyway, I hadn't really liked the guy since before he screwed Conan over. I've been working lately on dropping things from the past. :\
Anyway, some of the stories about the cars really are tearjerkers.
Yes I've seen a few and they were good. I think Jay Leno tries to help a lot of people in the car hobby. When I bought my 85 GT about 6 months ago the wife of the owner told me a story. They had their car at a car show in Florida and she said Jay was their with one of his cars and was one of the judges. She said he really liked their car because most of the work was done by them versus some of the other cars that were from high budget restoration shops. She said he really was a nice guy and took the time to talk to them. I know he has anonymously helped other people with car restorations too or purchased cars to save them.
I agree with you on letting past judgment's go, I wish a lot of people would apply that to the political discussion too.
Oh...I mean, yes, I watched a few episodes and he always does a great job of representing the hobby. I wonder what will happen to his collection when he departs this planet? The collection would make for a great museum.
Only a few of Bill Harrah's 1,400 cars made it to the National Automobile Museum in Reno. The majority were auctioned off for over $100 million in 1980.
Hope Leno's collection is kept more intact after he's gone.

What I find the most impressive is that he drives them. The cars aren't just sitting and rotting away.
"This is a 1901 Super Raremobile. Only two were made, and the first one burned to the ground. This one was thought lost for 60 years, and when found took 20 years to rebuild. We've repaired that well meant rebuild, and have it back to factory. Let's take it for a spin and see how it does on a busy LA interstate, with people all around it."
