After another member was banned, and came back (Hallelujah it's a miracle!) I got to thinking, it's been a while since I saw one of the "neg forgiveness" threads where we remind each other that all the other members are humans too.

So, if you could, go to your ratings and take away some negatives. You don't have to give them a positive, just go back to neutral.

If nothing else you can get that feeling of satisfaction the next time they upset you, and you neg them.

We really don't need to lose any members here, we're all family, even if it's sometimes dysfunctional.

I was once, nothing a quick message to Cliff didn't fix. Screwed by the speed ban early on after I signed up here.

Honestly couldn't even tell ya who started it, why, or if that member is even active anymore...I know he got his panties in a wad over something I did that he disagreed with, that's about it...

Members that I've negged have earned those ratings fair and square. I don't forgive and forget.

It works the other way as well. Members that I've given a positive to have to do something awfully dreadful to have it rescinded. I don't believe it's ever occurred.

Well, I just gave you a positive, just because. I enjoyed it no matter what you say, and you can't take that from me! :raspberry:

Brad, you're a.... complicated guy.

EDIT: Brad, I've got to level with you about something. Years ago I really appreciated something you said in my defense in a thread where I was getting set upon by a pack of misfits, most of whom are no longer affiliated with PFF. (Good riddance to them.) I gave you a well deserved positive. When you changed your username (or whatever happened a couple years ago), the positive followed you.

I don't remember when it began, but I recall there were several times years later where I felt you were being quite a jerk for no reason... to me and to others. I struggled with this for some time until I finally pulled your positive, but I couldn't bear to give you a neg. So you were neutered instead ... and that's where your rating currently resides with me. I believe your rating is the only one I've ever made a change to. I wish you didn't cause me this grief.

Thanks.

I just went through my ratings. I haven't rated anyone negative that isn't already banned. Everyone else either has a positive or nothing.

Every year around thanksgiving or X mass, sometimes both I check them and change all the negs to neutrals, positives stay until they earn a change. Hell I even have Aceman and Formula88 rated as positive, as much as we argue and disagree ! I always try to post a little note whenever I give someone a rating so I can refer to the thread, comment WTF ever they did and always tell them when I rate anyone. They earned it and should know who gave it to them and why, how else are they ever going to change to be a better person or forum member? Hell the hole reason we are here is to interact with other people who like Fieros and help each other in our times of need..

I did find it strange I had Patrick rated neg and the note I gave for it,

"Blind defender of all Canadians, even when they are so wrong !"

so in the spirit of the season I will change that to neutral, for now so watch your step Patrick, it can get changed at any point !

Steve

edit to add to those who change ratings, sometimes changing to a neutral has a different affect than expected, when I changed Patrick's rating just now from neg to neutral it seemed the little arrow went from the green just a little closer to the red.

I'm with Patrick, those few that I've given negs deserved it. Most aren't around anymore but the few that are still earn their neg day to day so it's staying there.

On a side note, I noticed that I didn't have Brad's current user rated so I threw ya a +, you deserve it.

To be honest there have been quite a few times where I've deserved a neg. :\

I try, I honestly do try to not be the enormous a-hole that I am in real life, but there are times it kinda sinks through. I used to say that prior to my head injury I was a pretty nice guy. But new me doesn't like me living off of his old reputation, Old me didn't like that either, turns out they have a lot in common.

I've been working on my attitude lately, its difficult (See enormous a-hole, above), but I am trying. I just wish people wouldn't take me calling them names personally.

Edit to add: I don't try to make excuses, but a lot of me not being an enormous a-hole is recognizing that I'm not the same guy I was before, and being OK with it. Usually the bad me comes out on days when I can't remember stuff so well, or when I get confused over something simple, where I know it wasn't an issue before. The worst thing about memory loss is knowing you used to know stuff.

The cool thing about changing is that after each perceived failure we get another shot, there is no real deadline and anyone doubting us doesnt in actuality change our ability.

Short version is if when you first start getting ratings, if they are all negative, the amount needed to ban you is greatly reduced. the actual formulas are a closely guarded secret.

My old boss, went in to get "the snip". In preparation he trimmed everything up because he was worried some old dude would be doing it. Gets to the room and a really good looking Spanish chick was supposed to "prep" him, but since he had done everything she just ok'd it and left.
That was mistake number one.
Then the doctor came in, said something about "training" a new doctor, and if he would sign a paper. He signed up, what could it hurt.
That was mistake number two.
The entire class was ushered in to check out the procedure, he couldn't see what the doctor was doing, but he'd say things like. "And don't ever do this." And Wham, his toes would curl back in pain, and "See how bad this looks if you do. THIS." And he would feel that pain all the way up.
It was a learning experience, Don't prep yourself, and don't blindly sign papers. Also, ask for the full monty on the pain killers, no matter what they say.

Got none to change.
Negatives creep me out.
It's a positive, or I just leave you how you came to me.

I either care about you, or I don't care about you at all.

P.S. I think anyone who ever gave me a negative should take it back.
There's no way a guy like me needs other peoples negatives...I got plenty of my own.

I don't give ratings, I want to hear what everyone has to say. If I don't agree I just pass on to the next comment. There are some people that are just plain whacko, but if we all weren't a little off the beaten path none of us would be here at all.

Why not write a little blurb when you rate someone. I do on some, and sometimes I get a kick out of em if I go back and look.
Example
Maryjane........Positive...... His wife makes good biscuits.
Boondawg......Positive...... Just so I could be the 300th person to give +
Etc. Etc.

Note, Boonie would still have got a + from me, the 300th person was just a bonus on my end.

Edit: What Dandamage said lol Sorry, hadn't got that far before I hit reply.

Brad

Ummm... there's a couple of Canadian forum members who know that definitely not to be true.

I like that. Thanks Don.

I put the titles of the threads in the "Reason" box. That way I can always look up the thread that inspired me to rate someone.

I'd like all the ratings (and reasons) to be common knowledge... at least to those whom the ratings directly apply. Cliff seems reluctant to go that route.

The inverse is also true--you have plenty of positives of your own.
You want that those +s other people gave you to be taken back as well?

(In all my time here and all the posts I have read, I remember quite a few people either subtlety or openly asking for a more positive input to their ratings, but only remember 2 instances of people asking positives be removed. One was by someone that (for a now forgotten reason) wanted to be banned. The other was by someone who didn't want a past occupation to be the sole deciding factor for someone rating them positively. Everyone wants accolades, justified or not--few want criticism, justified or not----go figure. Human nature is just odd.)

I'm sure there was something, but I can't tell you for sure where. >_< I know there was a lawsuit with work for a while, and I wasn't really able to say a lot. Then the lawyer got a lot of money, I got a thank you letter for using them... Yea, that's pretty much it.
It was the one where a 300 ton press shot a 6" piece of 3/4" steel out and hit me in the head right above the eye.

When the wife comes in here I'll ask her when it was.

Didn't fierofetish ask Cliff for a ban because he couldn't handle it anymore, or something?

He really was. I think he may have been bi-polar or something. One minute you'd be having a perfectly civil conversation with him, and out of no where he could lash out and be a complete dick. You never really knew where you stood with him. I eventually just avoided him entirely. That's become my regular method by and large in dealing with people here I don't like. It seems to me pretty stupid to have people you know can push your buttons, and try to pursue discussions with them. You already know it's gonna go badly.
