I'm more than a little sure, all those folks taking pics with their phones charged them with a handy solar charger and
Then they'll throw all those held held device's lithium batteries in the trash when they crap out.

Observation 1: I long ago gave up the notion that such demonstrations are likely to achieve anything productive.

Observation 2: For any gathering of people there seems to be a critical size beyond which they cease to act responsibly as individuals. On a trivial level, this fact is well known to every teenager who has ever had a casual party grow totally out of control. Each group is different, with different dynamics for each individual situation, and the critical size is difficult to predict ... but several thousand is usually the upper limit of the threshold for all but the most self-disciplined groups. Density (i.e. people per square foot) seems to be a factor, too.

The NYC street sweeper trucks and garbage trucks will no doubt create zero diesel soot when they come along to pick up the mess.
Hooray for the children!!!

Which begs the question, how many of those taking pics were also protesters?

I've seen this kind of behavior in all kinds of groups. "What I stand for/ am protesting about, is for you to change your ways. Not me." I'm a big-time recycler. Due in part to the county that I live in having a great recycling program. That, and I just don't like to be wasteful. But it's something I've been doing for years and probably drive more than a few people nuts by doing it almost everywhere I go. But what I don't do is to get into everyone's faces about it and then toss my trash on the ground NEXT to the trash can. The hypocrisy of some people just irks me. "We're here (to tell you how you need) to save the planet!" Sometimes I wonder if large crowds of protesters such as this one is filled with a lot of people who were protesting just for protesting's sake.

This (recycling plastic and glass) is one thing I wuld actually do if there were somewhere within 30 miles from me to do it.
Everyone wants to take and pick up metal and paper goods, but no one wants glass or plastic.

And drove there in a gas sucking SUV ( even a Prius isn't all that friendly to the environment when you look at its total life, including production and disposal ) wearing mass-produced clothes...

The 'recycle' company here wont take metal.

Paper, it has to be sorted and clean. ( not even a spot of grease in a pizza box ). No lids on bottles/jars, washed with soap.. No Styrofoam, metal scraps..

I put some old aluminum window screen in my bin the first week they took over from our old company ( who appreciated anything you put in there.. ) and they put a big red sticker on the lid and left it. I have not put the bin out since. Screw them.

I would do some recycling if it was convenient. Everything in this city is such a pain in the ass to do or have done, its too much work to do most of it. I have a big dumpster. EVERYTHING I throw away goes in it...let the landfill figure it out. Thats bottles, plastic bags , metal fenders, tvs, computers, papers and batteries.

Mega-rich, mega-liberal Hollywood superstar Leonardo DiCaprio took a private jet to the World Cup earlier this summer and then stayed on the 5th largest private yacht in the world. But that did not stop him from marching this weekend to stop climate change and protesting against things like private jets and yachts. DiCaprio is such a hypocrite!

They cleaned it up later. Jeez, you guys are such climate deniers that you seize on a few photos that show a normal amount of debris from an event of this size. Come clean, You are just opposed to their agenda right?

To be clear, I LOVE climate change. Here in lower Virginia we're just now enjoying the change from hot, humid summer to clear, crisp autumn.

In addition, for 20 years now I've lived on an estuary off the Chesapeake Bay and for 20 years I've been reading about sea level rise.

In fact, I've been PLANNING on some raised sea levels because at low tide I need wheels on the boat to get out of the creek.

Unfortunately, as with many other plans I've had, there hasn't been any change in the tides.

None.

One year, my school had door covering contest. The theme was to save the rain-forests. I had jury duty that week and could have begged out of it. Instead I put a Post-it note on my door saying, "In order to help save the rain forest, my covering consists of this Post-it note." I thought I'd either win the contest or get called in on the carpet. Ironically, neither happened.
