I saw a TV ad for American made shoes from SAS so I went to one of their stores to look. All of them were over a hundred dollars a pair. Has anyone on the forum bought and used their shoes and if so how do you rate them? Are they worth their price?

SAS Shoes started in San Antonio, TX. The name SAS means San Antonio Shoes. They are very comfortable work shoes, last awhile, and everyone that has had a pair , including me, swears by them! I would get a pair at the store if they had one here in Savannah!
I have had three pair of SAS black lace ups. Not sure what they call this model. I got the same model, three times in a row. Wear the latest pair all the time. Very comfortable, and hold up as long as any other shoe I have ever had (as far as standing up to wear and tear).
I paid $85 for a pair of unknown brand at Sears. They lasted about 3 months and the sole of one cracked all the way across just in front of the arch, and then I noticed the other shoe upper had separated from the side of the sole near the toes. I then went to JCPenney and bought a pair of Staffords, which I just discovered were made in Bangladesh. They've mostly been my daily wear and dress shoe for about 2 years and they're still in very good condition. If SAS exceeds that, they're probably worth the money if they're as comfortable as claimed. AND they aren't made in Bangladesh.

Interesting. I grew up in San Antinio, and knew of SAS shoes. I never bought a pair, and never heard that they had a work type selection. Steel toed ?
Cliff, they don't make work boots. Their shoes are more designed for service industry and people who stand or walk all day like nurses, police, or wait staff. They do have some dress and casual and that is what I used.
They are a little expensive but they are very comfortable. I've had them for the last few years, wear them most of the time at work & working at home. They were about $150 a pair for the Guardians. On my third set now, they usually last about 1 1/2 years of HEAVY use, oil at the shop starts separating the soles but the tops are fine. They would probably last me more than 2 years if I stayed out of the oil
I used to wear the Sears Diehard shoes but the last couple pairs I bought seemed to fall apart after several months, previous ones made it almost 2 years.
I have never worn or bought any SAS shoes, but $100 for comfortable and durable manly footwear is a bargain. There are only 2 things that can really bring a man to misery--troublesome feet and a troublesome rearend. I've known lots of men with bad feet, and believe me, it is painful to even watch. If you can keep your feet in good shape for around $100, consider yourself blessed and $$ ahead. Fortunately both my feet and my rearend have been trouble free my entire life, but $100 won't touch the footwear I buy and wear.

Make that 3 things Don, you forgot a miserable wife.
I'm on my feet all night at work and walk about 5 miles a night....on concrete. I pay between $100-$200 every year or two just for comfortable boots (which also have to be black leather). If SAS sold the kind of boots I needed, I'd gladly spend the money. If you sit behind a desk all day, buy $30 shoes. If you're up and wallking around (especially if you're heavy and/or on concrete), buy top quality. I have some fairly serious foot problems mostly because I wore generic boots for too many years.
Thanks for all the feedback. For the past year and a half I have been delivering a monthly magazine to over 300 locations to supplement my social security retirement. I've been wearing cheap tennis shoes from Wally World and my feet bother me when I finish. Based on what you guys have told me I think I will spring for the SAS shoes. As always this forum is great.
