Found these today as there was no way I was going threw Chinamart's books or push button idiot book to find what filters I needed to give the Fiero a tune up and oil change. Besides last time I look for anything at Chinamart for the Fiero they just didn't carry it. So I looked online, and found these.
Just a word of warning, the Wal*Mart oil filters are the bottom end in quality. I cut open about 30 filters years ago to see what the difference between all of the brands was. The Super Tech (Wal*Mart) filters had the same elements as the Autozone ValueCraft, base Fram filters and other cheap brands. The ends are cardboard. The filter element is also a cheap form of cardboard. If I remember it right, the bypass value was really flimsy too. You are much better off spending an extra buck or two and getting an ACDelco filter with metal end caps, a better filter element and a little better bypass valve. If you want the best filter, get a NAPA gold or most other filters in the $8+ price range.
If you do use those cheap filters, do not go beyond the recommended oil change interval.

The filter is just as important as using the correct good quality oil. Just like buying cheap brake pads or oil filters, you get what you pay for.

As with everything else, all filters will not be the same across the line.
The Super Tech you opened had cardboard ends but that one has metal. Wal Mart buys them from who ever will make them for the price point they seek. You may get a well constructed one or you may get garbage. I'm not saying to buy the one from Wal Mart, just that if you do maybe cut one open first to see if it's constructed well. Some are easy to see such as those used in the Chevy Cobalt as they are an open element on a plastic frame. I compared the Super Tech to the Fram one of those open elements and the Super Tech actually looked visually better. Still, I do agree, spend the extra couple of bucks and get a better filter if at all possible. I just spent $15 to get a K&N rather than $6 to get a Fram or Super Tech for our Mazda. I'd rather err on the side of caution.

Snip'd the picture.

The last information I read about K&N filters said that their filters do not provide as good of filtration as the Purlator Gold version. K&N filters provide greater flow but, less filtration as I remember. I like Mobil One Filters but, to each their own. ------------------ Ron

I like mobil one filters, when on sale or part of an oil change special at the auto parts store.. Most times, it's WIX or napa gold (wix) or hastings.. used to get ACDELCO.. but now they have 2 lines.. the auto parts store line.. made in china and the dealership filters, made here.. I've cut them both open, well I didn't a shop I used to deliver to when I was moonlighting at advanced. did, and they are not the same.. the sport trac. mostly gets motorcraft.. or Wix../napa
Steve.. I cross filters and such online using either rockauto's web site/ napas or advanced..
now that I have a laminator, I'll make a listing of filters fuel/air/oil/trans/etc for all my vehicles .. and make a sheet to put in the glove box, or under hood.. of each..
Just an FYI.. the advanced auto parts oil filters they sell to shops, without the fancy box, is Purolator.. and the price is much lower.. not sure if there is an advanced near you.. if there is, I can ask Rich, what the part # of those filters are for our cars.. 4 banger and v6.. 2.8/3.1/3.4/3800/4.9 v8 etc.. it might help others also..
I have a good stock of filters,, as I keep 1-2 oil on hand,
It's been a while since I looked up what oil filter our V6 Fiero's use (I always get them at Napa, the guy gets it from the back and I don't pay attention to the part #) but if I recall correctly it's a common filter used in a number of different GM vehicles. Not just cars with the 2.8 either.

True that; at one time the driveway here held four cars which all used the same filter; only one was the Fiero. Whenever I could, I'd use a coupon and buy a whole box.
I use the AC Delco PF52. I've not seen the Chinese ones E Furgal claims exist. I also don't use the Ecore ones. For now at least, the stores by me still carry the "regular" (non-Ecore) PF52.

Aren't there also 2 different types of filters also available for the Fiero, with a anti-back drain valve or some such thing?
I just posted this as a heads up to some who might not want to go threw all those books that everyone on the earth has gotten all messed up, or pages are missing, and don't even say they have those electronic things so you can just put the info in. WTF those things are broken more than they work.
if you know the different filters that will work on the car, whatever car you are getting a filter for ahead of time you can save a lot of time when you go in and just ask or get the correct filter by the manufacturer that you prefer.
I just thought some here might find it useful for their other cars as well.
As long as the filter meets min. OEM spec, it should be good. The rest... well, marketing. They are not designed to last a lifeftime. I use Fram and Puroillator because they are easy to get around here. 170+K on the Aztek and no issues. Comparisons on amount of filter material and overall design are not true comparison for quality. One has to test the filter and measure performance, which most do not do.
