I haven't been in Slovakia in probably 8 years and I don't know anyone there. I also haven't done any business with anyone in Bratislava, Slovakia ....ever.
I'm curious as hell what it could possibly be. It isn't every day that I get an unexpected package in the mail from Bratislava. In fact I have NEVER received a package in the mail from Bratislava....ever.
The package front:
The sender:
They paid 5 Euros to send it....it must be serious stuff:
OH..It's a "gift".... it says so on the Slovak Post label on the other side of the package..YIPPEE:
So I open the package....what could this marvelous gift that cost 5 Euros to ship to me possibly be?
I looks to be a plastic container of what appears to be some sort of moist dirt inside....What the hell?
With all the gentle trepidation of a bomb disposal technician I carefully open the container...HUH?:
It doesn't look like "dirt" precisely, it's more like peat with tiny flecks of some quartz-like substance in it.
There are couple of pieces that look like small rocks n the material and it has no smell that I can detect....of course I'm not going to stick my nose down in there and take a deep snort.
There are no labels, markings or writing on the container at all. Not even a manufacturer name of the plastic container molded on it.
So now you know as much as I know.
I have a vague idea who sent it, (EQUAL s.r.o. in Slovakia)...I looked them up online and since I can't read Slovak I have no clue what they are or do. I also have NO CLUE why they would send this "gift" to me.
Any guesses of WHAT this is, and why it is a "gift" ?
No idea but, don't forward it to my place..................
Our UPS driver was just telling me this week of how he had a package to deliver but, the address was a closed up industrial shop. He brought the package back to the distribution center. Long story, short version, LEOs were called, they set up a sting and someone went to jail. You're way more trusting than I am.

Isn't it strange that after a bombing, everyone blames the bomber, his upbringing, his environment, his culture, his mental state but … after a shooting, the problem is the gun.... Open your frigg'n minds, think about all the other tools that can be made into WMDs.
I sincerely hope that life is never discovered on another planet because, sure as hell Progressives and Socialists will want to send them money.
Yeah, 50,000 small packages of dirt to random addresses around the world solves an environmental cleanup problem, and cost a ton less than permits and lawyers......
Isn't it nice to own just a bit of a foreign country?

I was really thinking more along the lines of some sort of NBC weaponization, but couldn't find the biohaz sign I wanted..

...
Or, 50,000 packages sent World wide with a biohazard. **** me!
Edit: I have a similar package sitting in my garage that I pulled out of my mailbox this afternoon. I have not opened it up yet, but it is the same sender and such as the OP.

Got your PM and saw Don's post, (i.e. Equal s.r.o. having just 2 employees & "management consulting").
This just got a wee bit stranger.
Either Tony and I have a mutual friend or a mutual enemy. Not sure yet.
I did take the advice in this thread and put some water in the cup with the "dirt" and put it in my office window.
Nothing so far....

If a third person here gets one, take them to the PD.
It would seem that concern and caution are both in order. You have several things in common besides Fieros, which have given you common friends. You share political views which have given you common enemies. It could be a joke or something somewhat more sinister.

I was just going to make the same observations you did.
The most obvious thing that Tony and I have in common is this forum, and now we both receive similar packages from the same Slovakian source.
Tony says that the Customs label on his package reads: "Halloween gag" while mine simply says "Gift"
I don't share my home address with many people on PFF, (if any), and I don't know Tony's address, so some 3rd party knows both our addresses.
I'm not hard to find though for anyone that knows my full name.
Now it's obvious that whoever sent me a package and now one to Tony is also somehow connected to this forum.

This might be totally unrelated but two days after the "Great Banning" the cops showed up at my doorstep due to a 911 domestic violence complaint.
We let the cops in to show them she hadn't beaten the hell out of me and that was that.
Then the next day the 911 operator called to say it happened again but the cops had flagged our number as a possible prank call so they weren't sending a patrol over.
I thought about posting the incident here but I didn't want to sound paranoid.
I would be watching your bank accounts and especially credit reports carefully, to ensure no unauthorized accounts have been opened in your names.... sometimes scammers will open an account, then purchase very small insignificant items and send them to the correct address just to see if the real person is paying attention to their credit card accounts. Crooks in China have been doing it for several years now.

Without being to insane, I am able to get anyone's home address easily. We all can.
@Ray... Interesting?
I am willing to bet that someone sent us **** , and we know who that someone is. Regardless, I am taking this to the authorities. If this is more than I can handle, I am able to be at the front of that decision.
This would not be Rinselberg.
I have no felonies or a past that would beget me harm.
I now have a pet project.
Going to snap a few pics of the package, then at some point carry out my intentions of authoritative intervention.
If anyone has had this happen to them recently, or heard of this happening, please speak up. If this really is a "gift" or a "Halloween gag" then come forward through PM. I can play along, but at the moment I see no laughter.

@ MaryJane... One of my Wife's "pet projects" is to keep an eye on the dinero. Every transaction is noted immediately. She was a victim of identity theft, and we both protect ourselves with fierce observation of our accounts. We have fallen victim to our Home Depot account last year, and knew of it as the transactions were taking place in real time. She will not allow that to happen to her again.
Tony, if yours turns out to be an electronic device, such as an adapter, dongle or usb anything for a phone..don't use it. Traditionally, they contain nefarious software.
Another possibility is this is a new twist on the old 'empty package' thing. A fledgling company or one that has seen a drop in sales, sends out hundreds or even thousands of empty packages (often thru a 3rd party shipper) to falsely be able to post increases in sales. Other times, they send out small incredibly cheap pieces of plastic such as little crackerjack type toys) that aren't even connected to their actual products. This one is what China has seen a lot of to attract investors and private funding.
Under no circumstances would I contact this company directly, either thru mail, internet, or telephone. They may just be looking for validation of a real living person's name and identification.
One of the business websites I looked at shows this company to have zero employees but as of 2010, still had a little cash flow.

(The SK NACE reference above appears to be an acronym for a Slovak version of our Better Business Bureau or some other business reporting entity, and I assume it is they that provided the information regarding EQUAL SRO.)
Again, a translated version of one of the google search results for "SK NACE" :

The previous Slovak version of this classification was known to the public under the name Statistical Classification of Economic Activities, or under the acronym of the CZ-NACE .
The reason for the extensive review of the classification of economic activities was to take into account the technological and structural changes in the economy as well as to ensure the comparability of economic statistics not only at European but also at international level. Therefore, the development of the new classification has been coordinated by the United Nations Statistical Commission and at the European level by the European Statistical Office - EUROSTAT.
SK NACE 2015 can also be found on the Internet (SK NACE can be found online also on official EU websites, including dial, list and codes). The statistical classification of economic activities can also be found under IČO .
