This is a modern interpretation of a mid 19th century Russian folk song. The title asks "What kind of songs are they singing in Russia?"
For two centuries, from the mid 1600's to the time of this song, many musical instruments were banned in Russia.
In case anyone cares, this band is not Communist and they are opposed to the war. They are first class musicians who love their home, nothing more, nothing less.
The instrument played by Alexey Belkin, on the left, is a traditional Russian folk instrument called a Gusli.
Strangest thing, I was innocently walking the path, when all of a sudden like, a riff entered my conscious stream of thought, out of deep memory, for no apparent reason. Couldn't recall the tune, the lyrics, artist, song, era, just that riff. Had to search for it later. This is it.
The thing is, at the time I wasn't a fan, and grew tired of hearing it constantly overplayed on am/fm radio. Now, having it explained today, I better understand the reason why the tune imprinted so indelibly.
