It can only be a comment on
you, as you cannot speak for
our society (you can't possibly know what everyone is thinking), or "relative unimportance" for those people (not
thinking like you), or "lasting importance" for anyone but you.
And much past one's wife or children's lives & future, I can't imagine much more than that that would have lasting importance to a man.
Nothing lasts forever.
Governments crumble, kingdoms collapse, whole species go extinct.
Not even
collective knowledge.
All we are and all we know is all we got.
Our job is to hand that off to the future to be further refined.
That's the best we can do.
