I have a Husqvarna Automower 430x that I'm using to mow my lawn. My home is new construction, on about 3/4 acre. Being new construction, the yard is complete trash so I'm currently in the process of planting Bermuda grass to make it nicer. The Automower does a great job of cutting the grass, I am very impressed with its performance so far. If it notices the grass is a bit thick, it'll start to spiral cut the area automatically. It's so quite you hardly notice it and the neighbors are quite jealous.
There is some growing pains with it though, it does tend to get stuck in a certain area in the ditch in the front yard. I am trying to fix that from happening, once I do, it'll be smooth moving forward. I'll try to post some photos tomorrow.
Very cool. You're a braver person than I am. (Or else you have it severely "constrained".)
We still mow ours manually. (We live on a farm. A lot of our grass is reclaimed pasture land. We have a 48" Husqvarna rider and a 52" Grasshopper zero turn. Keep them both busy.)

This Automower, how much acreage can it mow? I've got a couple acres. Although, it would be financially pretty silly for me to not use the Kubota tractor and mower I bought to mow with, having the allergies I have, it's not a task I look forward to.

This one is good for about 3/4 acre which is about what I have. There are others that can do 1.25a I think and you can also set up multiple mowers for your lot.
Will it mow around sleeping dogs and cats? I'm getting tired of digging graves for the wife's pets.................. Went to the Husqvarna Automower website, couldn't find warranty mentioned anywhere. Took a while but, I finally found the warranty information on this robotic mower.

It'll bump into them, turn around, and go somewhere else. I bought mine that was a dealer demo on eBay. The amount of time it saves is remarkable and I'm sold on these for life. I'd gladly buy another when the time comes and I've only used this for about two weeks.
I also mow the property behind my home just to keep it cleaned up without some of the ugly ass weeds that grow here in Mississippi. It's not mine but, I don't really care. There's a pond on that property and I'd hate to think that automated robotic mower would try to go surfing or diving...........

You can run it in the rain, but not use running water to clean it off. You would run a boundary wire around the pond and it would never go inside so there's no risk of that.

Well, I just convinced myself that won't do for me. Way too much wildlife drinks at that pond for a wire to stay put. I can just see that robot snorkeling.

Boundary wire is staked into the ground. Nothing will move it.

Something to keep in mind for the future. I like the idea and would sure as heck enjoy not suffering from all my allergies that kick in when I mow but, I also enjoy my Kubota with all it capabilities. Hopefully, they'll build an automatic (remote controlled) robotic automower with a front-end loader, a rotor tiller, a carryall platform, a box blade, a weed sprayer and a pond scoop that does more than just mow. If they build that, one may show up at my place. But, I do like the idea of being able to just pull up an ap on my phone to get the yard mowed.
Depends on the version, saw one that was only 9.75 inch swath. With all that I mow, my six foot mower is slightly faster at getting it done but, that also means I'm out there doing it. Thankfully, I enjoy doing things on my Kubota, just not that allergy crap.
I do have one question about this product's activities. My wife has one of those robot vacuum cleaners that uses some kind of random pattern to cover the entire floor it has access to. Does this automower cut grass in straight lines across a yard or does it bounce around in a random pattern like the robot vacuum?

It cuts the grass in a random pattern. You can set it to run as much or as little as you want and can schedule it as well. Since it runs so often no grass ever gets too high and you can adjust the height of cut as well. If it notices the grass is too high, it'll start to spiral cut the area.

Interesting but, the last sentence you posted just ruled it out for me. I already have someone that let's me know when the grass is too tall. Don't need another version.
I would love to get one of these. It's good to know a few people that have them and use them and are happy with them. My allergies are pretty severe. Even with the combination of things the allergist prescribed, when I mow the lawn (even with a dust mask)... I'm going through a box of tissue and having sneezing fits for a while.
Right now all my 'fun money' is going into my Fiero though. But this will be on the list!
I have a Husqvarna backpack leaf blower, a weed eater and a chainsaw.
All of them perform flawlessly and they have excellent warranties.
The local small town hardware store is a Husqvarna dealer and is very knowledgeable when it comes to service or tuneup work.
Many people in my area use Husqvarna riding mowers and zero turn mowers, and they all are very happy with their purchases.
The equipment is hard to criticize, as it does what it is supposed to with no hassles.
No disagreement from me on the equipment. But it doesn't come with an operator................. The whole point of my interest is to avoid the allergy results. This mower is an option but then, what will I do with that six-foot finish mower? The robot mower would be nice but, I've got a wedding to pay for this fall and a grandchild coming late this summer, both will cost more than that robot. It'll have to wait.

Here is progress on the yard, you can see where I laid the boundary wire. I just used my neighbor's mower to cut down the area on the left in the first photo and I relaid the wire to enclose that, hopefully the Automower does well in there.
You can set it to run 24/7 if you want to, but I believe the top of the line models are capable of about an acre or so I think. You'd likely need to set up four in their own areas to cover the lawn. I could see that working.
I am very impressed at how well the lawn is being maintained. I put down lots of Bermuda seed and topsoil and the lawn is certainly the best in the neighborhood so far since everyone else has dirt and dead rye grass from last winter.

Blackrams, you need to get ahold of TDA and have him fit your Kubota with remote controls. A couple of servos, a camera, and a cellular data link, and you can be sitting pretty in your house, away from all the allergens. Drive it just like a video game!
Full autonomous operation might take a bit more effort, even for TDA.

I can tell you first hand, the technology is absolutely already here.
I watched something recently about robots. Americans in particular have had HUGE phobias about them for as long as they've existed. It is a cited (in the show) reason they want them to look like robots and not more realistic. We are scared of them taking our jobs and eventually subjugating us.
Still working great at keeping a manicured lawn every day. It's fascinating watching it work. I'll never go back to mowing a lawn by hand again. All I do is a bit of edging on the weekend and I'm done.

Just curious but, can the blades be sharpened or just replaced and how often do you have to do either. I've found the quality of the metal on blades is very telling. No, I don't enjoy changing the cutting blades on anything, that just ends up with me being more exposed to allergens.

The blades are tiny, like razor blades. You just replace them. Maybe once or twice a month.
just wait, till another one comes rollin down the street and convinces 'your' mower to desert it's assigned job and go malingering down the road with it's new friend...

Even if the robot mower itself was inexpensive (which it definitely isn't), replacing the blades that often would be a deal killer for me.
I recently bought a place that's just over an acre in size. I made sure that the rider mower (actually, two of them) on the property were included in the sale. I don't mind cutting the grass the old fashioned way... or failing that, I'll get a goat.
You would be disappointed in a goat. They aren't grazers. they are browsers and eat weeds, leaves, branches and brush but very very little grass. Get a sheep or cow but not a goat.
Being city born and bred, my knowledge of such things is basically zilch. Do sheep require other sheep buddies, or can one sheep be content to share an acre with just a dog and a cat?
