This would be a good thing.

At one time I was the Production Manager for a company and I would order frozen turkeys for every employee at Thanksgiving. The turkeys would be picked up and available the last working day of the week of Thanksgiving at the close of shift for that day. For some unknown reason we always had turkeys left over that didn't get picked up by the employees so, after everyone had left for the day, I would load up whatever was still there and take if to a homeless shelter for them to enjoy. That number would always vary but, when there's 15 to 20 frozen birds left over ya gotta do something with them. They were very grateful and I always enjoyed doing that.

The funny thing is, the following Monday I would always have employees coming to work wanting to know where they could get their turkeys. We didn't have a way to keep those turkeys refrigerated so they lost out. Some actually asked for the $$$ that a turkey would cost but, that wasn't offered. Just goes to show ya, ya can't please everyone.

To all my friends, have a safe and happy holiday. Remember, you can only refrigerate that left over turkey for so long before it goes bad.

Rams

WKRP is my second-favorite TV show....and that is the best episode- and it is based on fact; Hugh Wilson, who created the show, was working originally in advertising and dealt with station WQXI in Atlanta....Jerry Blum (WQXI GM) had turkeys thrown from a semi-truck at a shopping mall as a Thanksgiving promotion.

After the >>badly received<< promotion, Blum stated "I didn’t know turkeys couldn't fly".

In Guitar Player magazine, for years, WKRP was rated "Best radio station" even though it was just a TV show.

(My fav' tv show is "Gilligan's Island"- and don't ask how good an imitation of Gilligan I can do!)

Been told that after 4 to 5 days, it makes good fish and bear bait. Wouldn't know for sure, I don't enjoy fishing or meeting bears.......................

The apocryphal story around one place I worked was about the guy who picked up his turkey, put it in his trunk, and went to the Thanksgiving company party. After he forgot about the turkey. Until he kept wondering where that smell was coming from....

I hope you had a Happy Thanksgiving, guys. We don't need More to be thankful, we need to be Thankful more.

That's a great tradition. The "Monday after" reminds me of a former employee. We do an annual staff Christmas party for staff and spouses. This guy was a part-time employee with another full time job, and often his schedule didn't allow him to come. A couple times he asked if his wife and daughter could use the two spaces at the party. Um, no. We aren't just giving out two free tickets for dinner. It's a *staff* party. If the staff member comes, he or she can bring their spouse. If the staff member can't come, then so sorry.

Wild turkeys can fly, just not very well or very far. One came flying onto my back fence a few months ago here in the subdivision, glided down onto the lawn, made a running takeoff and flew over the fence into the front yard.
Domesticated turkeys tho, are too heavy because of intentional breeding practices to increase breast size (sound familiar?) and they have had their wings clipped anyway.

(I learned all this from Les Nessman's farm report)
