Lots of talk and news stories now about this 'city killer' (2024YR4) asteroid that is maybe gonna hit Earth in 2032.

Some 'scientists' say it's alread too late to try to deflect it, others say it has but a small chance of hitting Earth anyway... Some folks are saying it will be ok if it just hits Buffalo or Los Angeles, Delhi, or Mexico City so they can get a clean slate to start over..

I would think a grazing hit would be better, as it would burn off more of it, but I know squat about spacial bodies flying thru the cosmos and there's always a good chance I wont live long enough to see it anyway..

If it's gotta hit, I opt for Ho Chi Minh City.

Where would YOU like to see it hit?

Middle of the Pacific Ocean.
It would cause less damage to the earth, in general. And there would probably be enough time for people to get to high ground.
Or maybe Moscow. Or Iran. Depends upon the prevailing winds.

LSome say it will miss us by a country mile. At 38,000 MPH, being just a tiny bit off could result in an impact. So far scientists have suggested the areas this one would impact is a band of land ranging from northern South America across the Pacific Ocean to southern Asia, the Arabian Sea, and Africa. This means countries like India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, Ethiopia, Sudan, Nigeria, Venezuela, Colombia, and Ecuador would potentially be in danger. (the map tho, shows several smaller nations to be in the path too)

I haven't lost anything in any of those countries, so I'm ok with that. I haven't any real connection with Buffalo, Los Angeles, Mexico City, or Ho Chi Minh City either but my pick for a city that needs a clean slate to start all over on would be Delhi India but I would be ok too, if Buffalo just shuffled off in a cloud of dust..
The projected path IS awful close to the Panama Canal Zone, .

Don't be shy, pick one, and I'm 100% ok if you pick Central Texas too, since that's where I live along with all the dang leftist immigrants from California. I'll take one for the team...

They said the chance had doubled it will hit earth. From 1% to 2%.

I'm not worried.

"There’s always an Arquillian Battle Cruiser, or a Corillian Death Ray, or an intergalactic plague that is about to wipe out all life on this miserable little planet, and the only way these people can get on with their happy lives is that they DO NOT KNOW ABOUT IT so we just tell 'em there's an asteroid coming that might hit here or there and we all go about our daily insignificant business in ignorance till it's too late.."

Sodom, recently burned by fire, just downwind of Gomorrah, on the Bay.
Yeah, that would muss your hair.
' Oh ! The humanity ! '
' They deserved it ! '
' Sinners ! '
Maybe, build a boat to ride out the flood, like Noah, wayback, ' Gobekli Tepe ! ' Karahan Tepe - Before Göbekli Tepe
Burrow beneath the surface, an underground city in which to live for a few hundred generations. Derinkuyu, Cappadocia, Turkey - Underground Cities From The Ice Age
This is it, the history your teachers refused to teach you, some other bs story they fed you, by the spoonful, an ulterior motive.
' I think the stories the survivors tell will resemble Genesis, because lost technology, like from before. '
for example.. Simple Questions Like, just like, the movie, ' Idiocracy '
Too stupid to survive, left outside to freeze, or starve, or burn. or choke, or turn to salt, Biblical, like.
Incoming Doom !
There was that scene in that movie, Deep Impact '98
Asteroids !
Lo ! The end is nigh !
I think we need to build Moon_Bases then Mars_Bases, import water from the asteroid belt, flood Mars with H²O, grow greenery, yep !
Hope for Humanity, Earth an Ice Planet, for thousands of years.
Elon Musk, he'll save us !

Existential thought on the cruelty of nature, a mean mother, doesn't love us.

Today's new news:

The probability that a major asteroid, big enough to wipe out an entire city, will hit Earth in 2032 has just increased to 1 in 32, or 3.1%, according to NASA.

On Feb. 7, NASA increased the likelihood that asteroid 2024 YR4 will hit Earth in seven years time from 1.2% to 2.3%. The odds of impact then climbed to 2.6%, and are now at 3.1%, according to the latest data on NASA's Center for Near Earth Object Studies website.

Dang, looks like I may need to reinforce my aluminum foil cap.

Where would I prefer? Fortunately, the few folks I don't care for are generally surrounded by innocent folks who don't deserve the same fate, I'll settle for wherever Putin is at the time. Sorry Moscow, I know not everyone there is nuts.

Depends. The Pacific Ocean, is a very important part of 'the Earth in general'. There are 44 million people living just in the Australiasia region of the Pacific. That doesn't include any continental coastline but it is more than twice the population of the 10 most populated cities in the USA.

NYC
LA
Chicago
Houston
Phoenix
Philly
San Antonio
Dallas/FW
San Diego
Jacksonville

Kill a large portion of the biosphere in the ocean, it might well kill the Earth as well. But, because of the asteroid's velocity, and the rotation of the Earth, there's very little chance it will fall in the Pacific unless it is close to S. America's Western coastline. A bigger chance for the Atlantic, then a smaller chance for the Indian Ocean.

(If it has to hit the USA, I choose now, Paris Texas. It's where Gawd would stick the hose anyway, if he were going to give the world another enema)

When I am standing in line at the store and they >>OPEN<< another check-stand, I always look up at the sky as I walk out of the store- looking for the meteor that is going to nail me....balancing accounts....

(So this meteor must be MY fault!!)

As I can't affect the outcome of the universe, I really don't think I'll spend much time thinking about this.

Just curious if anyone has seen any data on past near-miss predictions and actual outcomes? i.e. miles claimed vs. observed. Methinks if we are going to get nailed it will more likely be from a body appearing out of nowhere rather than one that is tracked for years ...

.
' The asteroid belt, located between Mars and Jupiter,
primarily consists of rocky and metallic asteroids,
while the Kuiper belt,
located beyond Neptune, contains icy bodies, including dwarf planets like Pluto, and is much larger and more massive.
Here's a more detailed comparison:
.
Asteroid Belt:
Location: Between Mars and Jupiter.
Composition: Primarily rocky and metallic asteroids.
Size: Relatively small and compact compared to the Kuiper belt.
Origin: Remnants of the early solar system that never formed a planet, possibly due to Jupiter's gravitational influence.
Examples: Ceres (a dwarf planet), Vesta, and countless smaller asteroids.
.
Kuiper Belt:
Location:
Beyond Neptune, extending from about 30 to 50 astronomical units (AU) from the Sun.
Composition:
Primarily icy bodies, including dwarf planets like Pluto, Haumea, Makemake, and Quaoar.
Size:
Much larger than the asteroid belt, both in width and mass.
Origin:
Remnants of the early solar system that never formed a planet, possibly due to Neptune's gravitational influence.
Examples:
Pluto, Haumea, Makemake, Quaoar, and many other Kuiper Belt Objects (KBO '
.
So, like, that's the plan, send rockets to Kuiper Belt, push ice balls to Mars, make Oceans on Mars !
That explains Noah's flood, aliens sending ice asteroids to Earth, flooding the planet, terraforming the dusty desert planet, making it a blue planet.
' Get your ash to Mars '

That's a great idea !

Near Miss, a hit !
Dakhleh Glass - Impact Deposit
The Origin of the Dakhla Glass
The scale of the event sterilized North Africa, creating the Sahara, burning, everything, been that way since.
Then, it happened again, strangely, coincidentally, destroying Sodom, and Gomorrah.
Asteroid Impact Comparison
They made a movie about that, so that people cared about the characters, like they were real, but it was fake.
Deep Impact: The Comet hits Earth
A meteor that size hitting Earth, it won't matter what you think.

' Yeah, cause, like, the meteor doesn't have feelings, so mean. '

' E.L.E '

' Oh ! '
