Pontiacs with a Purpose.....Pontiac Enthusiasts Support the Fight Against Childhood Cancer September 17-19, 2010......Celebrating 84 years of Pontiac History
It's a great time of the year to visit Rhode Island and help raise money to fight childhood cancer at the same time. There are 22 classes scheduled right now, but I have been assured that if we can get enough Fieros we will have our own classes. Just by word of mouth advertising, a few Fieros are already planning to attend so I'm confident that by show date the Fieros will be out in force. What better sight can there be than a large group of Fieros dotting the landscape. Let's show our bigger Pontiac cousins how much we enjoy our little two-seaters. September will be here before we know it. A wonderful family weekend is planned. Start with the cruise night with music and DJ Friday night in the hotel parking lot and join us for the show on Saturday. A section has also been set aside for craft vendors that will interest both the guys and gals. There are still rooms available at the show rate. The hotel and show grounds are wonderful.
The best thing is two wonderful children's charities will benefit. Come enjoy the weekend, check out all the great cars and the people and help us raise money.

“A PONTIAC CELEBRATION- 2010” September 17-19, 2010 there will be a Celebration of 84 Years of Pontiac’s Rich History in historic Warwick, Rhode Island at the Crowne Plaza Hotel. Pontiac hobbyists are invited to gather for an event focused on family fun and entertainment. And, it will be for a great charity cause too, as ALL profits will be donated to help support Alex’s Lemonade Stand foundation for childhood cancer and The Tomorrow Fund helping children and their families affected by cancer. A group of Pontiac enthusiasts have banned together to produce this event in celebration of the great Pontiac automobile and to use our hobby for the benefit of those less fortunate. Also helping with their generous support is the Event Host, PontiacRegistry.com, an internet Pontiac Club “building the single largest source of Pontiac information, services, and entertainment in the world,” and the Main Show Sponsor, Pontiac Enthusiast Magazine. Both support the fight against childhood cancer and have enthusiastically offered their support. Friday afternoon will be early registration/check-in at the Crowne Plaza Host Hotel - for the Pontiac show on Saturday - followed by an evening Parking Lot Party and “Teddy Bear Cruise” welcoming all cars of every make and model with music, food, and refreshments. Everyone is encouraged to bring a child’s gift or make a donation to help our children’s cancer charities. There will also be numerous raffles for our charities, with many great items on display. Grand Prize is a “Florida Vacation Get-Away Package” at a private condo on Florida’s Gulf Coast Anna Maria Island for a lucky winner to come enjoy for 5-days/4-nights. The package also contains special meal, event, and gift certificates to make the trip even more enjoyable. Raffle tickets will be available throughout the Pontiac Celebration. ALL raffle proceeds go directly to Alex’s Lemonade Stand and The Tomorrow Fund charities.
Saturday afternoon will see all the beautiful Pontiacs lined back up at the host hotel for an afternoon trophy car show. There are twenty-four classes broken down into 1st–3rd place awards, and a number of speciality awards too. Judging will be by Popular Vote and hopefully a low stress event where fun and relaxation will be promoted. Again, music, food, and refreshments will be available for all. But, for those who travel the New England show circuit, they will be happy to know that “A Pontiac Celebration– 2010” is also a Super Wheels Showdown Qualifying Event.
Saturday’s activities will also include a swap meet and arts and crafts on display. In the host hotel, kids of all ages will enjoy the Hot Wheels displays and Johnny Lightning Race Club track set up for them to test their skills. Saturday evening is Awards Night at a Family BBQ with music and entertainment. Don’t bother getting all formal either– this is designed for fun.
Planning for this show is going well and the Fieros will be well represented by the response I've received. Come show off your pride and joy, hang out with other Fiero enthusiasts, check out all the other great Pontiac automobiles, browse the vendor area and help out two great children's charities. Several craft vendors have signed up for vendor spaces. They include jewelry, home goods, candies, books, candles, and kitchen items. Several other antique and crafts vendors have shown an interest. The Johnny Lightening race event for children will be starting at 9:00 AM Saturday. Our room block has been exceeded, therefore, rooms are on a first come first serve basis. The hotel will hold the rate as long as rooms are available. If you are planning to attend the awards BBQ, we need to know at least 72 hours in advance so the hotel can plan for it.. There is quite an impressive list of raffle prizes including memorabilia from Marge Sawruk; books from Tim Dye, Jim Wangers, and John Gunnell; a George Foreman grill;a National TA/FB complimentary gift subscription; automobile tools and supplies; and several gift certificates. Lastly, there is a Florida vacation raffle.

A friend of ours owns a gorgeous 1978 Trans Am and was one of the top 100 cars chosen a few years back. Beautiful car.....traveled to all the shows up and down New England......driven and never trailered......always enjoyed. We helped cheer him on in Boston and have a picture of him with a grim from ear to ear. He retired the car from the showing after that. His son enjoys the car now and we see it on the road quite often. Still as beautiful as ever.
Things are going smoothly with the planning of this show. Several vendors are on board, registration for rooms at the hotel are above expectations. It's going to be a nice weekend. So far several Fieros have pre-registered. We have Fieros coming from as far as FL and parts of NY as well as other New England States. Come join the fun!
Update for the Fieros. The Fiero Store very kindly sent gift certificates for the raffle...... proceeds from the raffle going to two wonderful children's charities.

The weekend is looking good. What a great time to visit RI. Let's celebrate our Pontiacs and raise money for two wonderful children's charities.
A big thank you to all the Fieros that showed up for the Pontiac Celebration weekend. And it didn't rain... thank goodness. It was a little chilly on Friday night for the cruise/block party, but we all had fun anyway. Old Lar could have used a jacket though. He was dressed for FL Saturday was a beautiful, warm day. The show field had every make of Pontiac you could think of, including 14 colorful Fieros. Pontiac sure did design and make some beautiful automobiles. The best thing though was that lots of money was raised for the two children's charities because of everyone's generosity.
