Fiero Celebration 2011 Reno Nevada July 15-17, 2011

For any questions email "fierocelebrate2011@sbcglobal.net" .
Celebration Agenda

Friday

It's time to converge at our host hotel the Peppermill Casino Resort and Spa, 2707 South Virginia Street, Reno, NV 89502, 1-866-821-9996, (www.peppermillreno.com). You have all day to check in to the hotel, find your parking place in our FIERO parking ONLY section of the lot, clean and detail your car for the show on Saturday and get ready for our reception and check-in that evening. There you get a chance to relax, claim your goody bag, chat up the evening with your Fiero friends, new and missed, catch up on tech talk, snap a few photos, and have some munchies.

Saturday

What would a Fiero Celebration be without a car show? On the west coast, we pioneered the regional Fiero Festival in 1991 and we are continuing in that tradition 20 years later in 2011 with the Fiero Celebration where Reno Nevada eagerly anticipates our return. The show will be at the Peppermill, so you don't need to drive anywhere after cleaning your car on Friday! Cars will be classed, photographed, and parked by 10am when the judging begins. (Late arrivals will be accommodated through 9:00AM for check-in). Lunch will be available throughout the day at the Peppermill. The show will be over at 3pm so you can return to your room to rest and prepare for the awards banquet.

No need to move that car! The Peppermill in Reno will be the location for our awards banquet. Festival-goers should begin arriving at 6pm for viewing of the show photographs (alcoholic beverages can be purchased in the casino area). Dinner will be a Mediterranean Buffet served at 7pm. Choose from 5 salads, baked salmon, grilled chicken, pasta, forest mushrooms, veggie lasagna, roasted potatoes, saffron rice, hot veggies, rolls, beverages and a selection of desserts. The awards ceremony and fun will begin at 8pm.

Sunday

For those of you who are staying in the Truckee Meadows on Sunday for most of the day or all of the day, we will take a leisurely jaunt to Virginia City. For those of you who attended the first Western Regional Fiero Festival in 1991, you may recall that the drive to this historic silver mining town is a thrill (and probably not advisable for those of you who get car sick easily). Plan to leave Reno at 10am from the Peppermill parking lot and have a casual lunch, an ice cream cone or whatever, when we arrive. This is not a formal event, because the drive IS the event and after two days of meeting, greeting cleaning, and showing, it's time to downshift a bit and relax!

All signed up.....just a reminder that the hotel does charge an additional fee
beyond the advertised Fiero rate. I was told $10.00 extra per day and 13%
sales tax applies.

Other than that everything went smoothly.
Kit

P.S. Why doesnt this thread include Reno, Nevada in the subject title?
It should so people know what geographical area it's in.

I thought that the original poster could change the title of a thread, but I was misinformed.

I have also made my reservations. I tried the link, but it
doesn't work, so still looking for the event registration form.
Maybe I can link up with the South Bay people coming
through Sacramento as I will be coming from Clearlake.
Looking forward to getting together with the Fiero gang.

I have the registration form, plus I made reservations at the hotel. Do I just bring the registration form plus the registration fee on the day I get there, or do I send the filled out form and a check to someone?

Man, I want to come so badly, but I don't really want to sit in the Fiero for close to two days travel time. (Google Maps says its 1day and 13 hours... a tad extreme).

My car isn't gonna win a show either, but this sounds like a great oppertunity for some face to face time with Fiero people.

From the organizer:

It is with great sadness and heartbreak that I have to announce the cancellation of the event this July.

I started planning it last summer when Mary asked me to take over for a year. I was so excited about reliving the heyday of the 90s when I hosted the Western Regional Fiero Festivals. I planned the event based on those events and the feedback from those events. I visited every major hotel/casino in Reno doing site tours, obtaining menus, etc. It was a lot of work. In the end, only the Peppermill was able to accommodate all our wishes (based on prior feedback) and give us great room rates. Plus, unlike previous WRFFs, this is a 5-Star Resort, winning local dining, gaming and spa awards year after year whereas we had originally stayed at motels for about the same price. I was also ecstatic that they were willing to accommodate us on the parking lot for the full 3 days of the event, with priority parking, all for us and the show. It was a dream come true! And I was counting down the days until I could see my Fiero family once again. I truly missed everyone!

Unfortunately, after months of planning, and numerous complaints, I received only 4 registrations. Adding to that, Mary and John told me that recent events had attracted a mere 17 cars. I didn't know that attendance had waned to that. I knew it had gone down and was hoping for and had budged for about 50 cars. It was clear with only 4 registrations and the numerous complaints that the event was not going to be the success I had built it to be in my head.

I am so sorry, and send out sincere apologies to anyone who is disappointed to be missing out on this event as much as I am. I am truly devastated. I will be mailing back the 4 registrations to those persons. There are an additional 10 or 12 people with hotel registrations who will need to cancel them as their rates are not protected without the contract in place.

Again, I wish it could have happened. I am more sorry and disappointed than any of you will ever be. I guess there is an old saying "you can't go back to your old neighborhood" and this is true of the event I started back in '91. It just doesn't exist anymore.

Best wishes to all and happy motoring!
Carole
Sparks, NV

I and several others have expressed our disappointment, our appreciation to Carole for all her hard work, and our sadness that an event of this caliber may not be available to us again for quite some time, if ever. I hope I'm mistaken. Thanks to all of you out there for your interest and know that many of us were really looking forward to getting together. If you had made hotel reservations, you do need to call and cancel them.

Is there a way I could contact Carol,

It is true, you can't go back to your old nieghborhood, but I have an idea for a new kind of Fiero event that will attract not only the "old" crew, which I am not a part of yet, and bring in more newcomers. But I don't know how to organize such an event.

I am truely sad about this, and was looking foward to it, guess I'll contact the hotel and cancel my registration.

Best,

Chris
