By Fierofool:

The 17th Annual Run For The Hills will again be in the beautiful twisty mountain roads of North Carolina and Tennessee.

On the itinerary and the main focus of the run is The Dragon at Deals Gap.

Make your plans now to join us in one of the most exciting of Fiero events.

Event date is September 14, 15, and 16. As always, we gather on the first day, then Run For The Hills on the 2nd day and return home on the 3rd day.

Lodging is yet to be determined, but we will update and post info to the forum as it becomes available.

If you have questions, ask on the forum or email us at GeorgiaFieroClub@Gmail.Com Subject: Run For The Hills Q & A

We will be conducting a scouting run on May 19th, so anybody close by that wants to participate, feel free. More info @ http://gafieroclub.org/bbs/index.php?topic=1125.0

We are looking for a great turn-out again this year and hope many of you will set the time aside for one of the longest running and best Fiero events to join us.

Thanks

\D

Lots of photos on page 4. This was only about 1/3 of what will eventually be the complete run.

The first donations for the raffle have already arrived.

I'll take some pictures later and post them.

Thank you 88_4mula!!!

We also have commitments already from TFS and Mr. Mike's!

For those of you not familiar with the concept of RFTH the way our club organizes it, we meet a day before the actual run (Friday), have dinner, talk "Nuts & Bolts", have a great time and get a good night's sleep.
On Saturday we have the actual event and when all have returned to our starting point, we have dinner again and to conclude the event, we raffle of some great prizes donated by many companies and organizations you are most likely familiar with in the Fiero community.
Check last year's threads to see some of the items donated and raffled off.
On Sunday we all drive back home after having a blast. Of course, some participants already depart on Saturday evening, depending on the distance they need to travel.

In a nutshell - An awesome event and heaps of fun!

If you need more detailed information about the event (or anything else) send me a PM

Here's what Matt from The Fiero Store sent us:

Gift Certificate
Hanley's Long Sleve w/logo (L)
Shot Glass w/logo
Christmas Ornament w/logo
Beautiful Leather Bound 1984-1988 Fiero Press Guide
TFS Calendars

Thanks Matt!

It'll be worth participating in RFTH 17, just to win some of the prizes afterwards!
Still many more prizes to come!

The next scouting runs have been scheduled for June 23 and July 7.

For the June 23 trip, as is our custom, we will meet up at the QT station in Oakwood/Gainesville. It's I-985 Exit 16 which is the Oakwood, Mundy Mill Road, Hwy. 53 exit. Be ready to pull out by 9am.

To help with your schedule planning, estimated time to get to Oakwood is approximately:

1 1/2 Hour from Douglasville
1 3/4 Hour from Newnan
1 1/4 Hour from Marietta
1 1/2 Hour from Stockbridge
1 1/4 Hour from Monroe via 81 and 53
1 1/4 Hour from Athens via 129, 85 South and 53
1 1/2 Hour from Canton via 20, 369 and 53

These are estimated times from Town Center to Town Center of the listed cities.

If you would like to meet us at another location, we'll be traveling between Toccoa and Clarkesville at about 9:30, Clayton, Ga. at about 10 and Franklin, NC at about 11. Let us know so we can adjust our schedule to hook up.

We probably will be traveling on The Dragon on this scouting trip.

Even the scouting runs are a blast!

This year the Georgia Fiero Club has commissioned a painting that will be used for the RFTH 17 event Tshirt. This painting, stretched on artist's canvas will go on the auction block as one of the prizes.

A couple of videos of the last scouting run for your viewing pleasure...a small sample of what we will be driving on the actual run.

As a reminder, we have multiple groups on the run...ranging from very aggressive to sight-seers. You are certainly not expected to push your car as hard as these drivers did. But if you want to...the opportunity will be there.

The answer is "yes". We still advise to separate into three groups, depending upon driving skills, vehicle and how much scenery detail you want to see.

Lodging will be the MicroTel Inn on Georgia Road, US 441 in Franklin, NC. There is a huge family center next door with bowling, miniature golf, arcades and several restaurants and fast foods. Other restaurants and fast foods are available nearby. For those that don't want to go on the run but wish to take their chances at other things, the Harrah Casino at Cherokee is just a short drive from our hotel.

Also a feature attraction will be go-kart racing on Friday night so you can do a final tuneup on your skills.

Donster should have contact info and rates soon, but in the meantime, here's the hotel.

Event Tshirts artwork has been finalized. This design will also be available in the raffle, printed on glazed coffee mugs which are microwave and dishwasher safe. My first cup has gone through 4 years of coffee and dishwashers without any hint of fading or chipping. The painting will be included in the raffle and will include a nice display stand.

As soon as we have prices on Tshirts, we will post here and open a link at www.gafiero.org in the Club Merchandise section. All shirts will be delivered at the event.

When I reserved my room I asked the manager why we couldn't get the rates up until 2 weeks before the event as we had in the past. She said that the hotel is now corporate owned and their policy is 30 days prior to the reservation for blocked rooms.

She said that if we would call back a day or two before August 16 that she would see if she could release some more rooms at our discount rate. She also said that there were 27 rooms reserved at our rate for Sept. 14 and 15, leaving on the 16th, but she couldn't identify if they were all in our group. Once the reservation is made all she has is a name of the person.

I just ordered our rooms today and they gave me the negotiated rate @ $ 62.99 p/night
When ordering, insist on the "Georgia Fiero Club" rate and it should all be good.

A NOTE FOR ANYONE PLANNING TO ARRIVE ON SATURDAY MORNING. THE DRIVERS' MEETING WILL BE HELD AT 8AM AND WE WILL PULL OUT IMMEDIATELY AFTERWARD.
