Cliff has his Posting Rules already listed, but I wonder if anyone has self-imposed rules they follow to govern their personal conduct? One of my rules is not rating anyone based on OT postings. I know it's tough sometimes, but I feel that is what this section is for. It's easy to withdraw from a dispute - stop posting. Or deal with that person through the Private Messages. Just remember the receiver may still post those PMs. I have posted positively and negatively in Gen Chat and Tech, but not here (or the Trash Can).

with rare exceptions, no more than 3 posts per thread, avoid personal insult, address the issue and not the poster. if it's all in good fun, none of these are an issue. if it gets hot, back away. no purpose is served by rudeness.
I go by the rule don't read any political threads... not worth my time. If I don't agree with someone's view and I feel very strongly I PM them I don't put it on display. Thats about it. I look at most of this is just good fun..
I have given VERY few negatives over the couse of 7 years. My standards for getting one are either
1) you made some unwarranted personal attack on another poster...and I mean something significant (some people get twisted out of shape if you point out that they are acting dumb). This does not even remotely rise to the level of a real personal attack. I mean something like bringing someone's family into it, hacking someone's account, or something similarly distasteful.
Or
2) Your conduct to contribution ratio or CCR, as I call it, is so lopsided that your loss to the forum is an improvement over your presence. My standard is that this is a FIERO FORUM FIRST! If you add some good material to Tech, GFC, or the Mall, I've got no beef with your presence even if you are a complete ass otherwise (I'll just put you in your place ). But if you don't add value AND you are a complete ass...bye! I've never negged someone for their political views BTW, God Bless America!
The only other rule I have is to go after pernicious posters actively. I think we can ALL name several posters who are gone and no one is sad to see them outta here. If someone is a real threat to the forum then I don't just neg them, I follow them around and beat them up until they leave. I've been criticized for this before but before you judge me ask yourself if we are better without Shuan, or Euturpe, or I'm Back, etc.

a) a personal attack. I just repeated what she posted in another thread where she attacked Nick for his lack of understanding about what it was to be a rape victim and then she blabbed about her "experience" with the subject. NO PERSONAL ATTACK.

b) Unwarranted. Clearly she qualified for #2 on my list in that she didn't even OWN a Fiero, never posted in anything but OT, AND personally attacked everyone on the forum..YOU included. She was useless to the forum and your warped recollection of the incident only makes clear your bias. REMEMBER, I'm still here, she is gone. Comprendo? Hmmm, with the invention of words like "concededness" I'd say ....NO.

A good set of guidelines, tho I might have an issue with the 3 posts per thread, if it is a multi page thread, and something I am really interested in.
There are several people here I would prefer to see tone their rhetoric down a bit--or a lot, especially on the personal side of things. Politically speaking, there is no stauncher conservative than myself, but I have learned it is not necessary to become abusive when posting in political threads--not even if another party does so 1st. It would be counter productive and only reflects badly on myself.

Gawd, you’re absolutely nauseating. You make it sound like YOU are the one who’s solely responsible for cleaning up this forum Todd, when in reality you’re one of the worst offenders for dragging it down.
You still can’t man up to the fact that you slimed all over a woman (Euterpe) who used to post here simply because she stood up to your bully tactics. Hell, Euterpe more than stood up to you, she made you look small... very small.

I haven't had a tiff with Patrick in over a year. For the most part he has cleaned-up his act. But when he get's off base I rein him back in.
Like it or not I actually provide a valuable service here. Euterpe is no where to be seen. Why? Because her personal attacks got out of control and I started a one man war to get rid of her. It cost me a few negatives from her cronies but she's gone. Ed'sB52/I'm Back? gone. Shaun Hammett? Gone. Stillwell? Gone...well, back again but give me time. My tactics may be offensive to some but they get results and the forum is a better place without these people.
Now you may have a point if you question who I am to judge other's this way. I can't deny that I use my own standards (in conjunction with the PFF rules). That may or may not be fair. But I can live with my conscience. Just as your neighborhood needs garbage men and oceans need sharks, forums need men willing to clean house to preserve order and the freedoms of other posters. Cliff can't do it all. He needs to be seen to be impartial. And the longevity of this forum when SOOOOOO many others have failed is due in part to people like me who are not afraid to tell a trouble maker to get lost and stay on their asses like a pit bull until they clean up their act or leave.
I try to keep my "debate" style more respectful. I don't always succed but then again I don't "debate" with everyone. With some it's a fight; and this is no debate. It's a fight. Patrick started it, I'm gonna end it. And agree with more or not, my fight record here is worth betting on.

Negs in Tech would be for flaming people who are trying to help. Usually posting there is a good way to get a positive. Same in Gen Chat. It's tempting to do the same in OT, but that's like jumping into a mosh pit and complaining about getting an elbow in the ribs.
