Well, I think one of the problems is that once you have received a certain amount of positive ratings, it's nearly impossible to get banned, even if you have more negative ratings than positive. For some this means there's no longer an incentive to "play nice".
But I'm working on a solution for that.
does Post count matter? if someone has the same neg vs. pos and one person has 5000 posts and the other 1000 which would be banned first? two people that tend to cause problems have massive posts counts because of the OT flame wars.
WOOT, I own page T00!

Some people do lose sight of things, and let it effect their daily lives. I have a couple of friends who have let their lives been 1/2 wrecked because they couldn't separate this from reality..
THere is also a poster here that is in this thred now that slams pff and the people that are here on rft and then comes here for what???? I remember the dog statment about a certin thread that you posted. Speek up if you want to. But since he was a good poster before and now insulting it will be imposable to ban as there number of positives that have to be overcome. I think that rating's should drop after a bit of time to balance out the bar. Like they go away after a year.
stimpy, since I gave you a neg awhile ago, you have been bettering yourself, switched to a Plus - helping out with the "Craigslist" Fiero helped my image of you.
also, would like to post this PM I recieved and respond to it in public.

Let's just make Jazzman "Saint Jazzman". He's is an angel. He's never, ever insulted anyone in in T/OT. He's never, ever provoked anyone into a nasty argument. Now, if you believe that, the tooth fairy, Easter Bunny and Santa will be visiting you tonight.
Jazzman left on his own accord. He left playing the role of a martyr. No one pointed to the door and said, "You must go!" He posted his thread as the act of a martyr. It was posted with purpose. The purpose: To get everyone to have pity on poor Jazzman.
Jazzman is a bitter man. He is very opinionated. He does use his self diagnosis of Autism as a crutch. Someone with his Autistic condition should probably stay away from interacting with hot subjects and people passionate with their opinions. I think it is known that Autistic people are unable to understand emotions of other people and "just cannot compute" some things.
You seem to believe that I instigated Jazzman's departure. I haven't tangled with Jazzman on an issue in weeks! You seem to think I hate Jazzman. I don't. Never have. (I dislike somethings he said to me months ago and do carry that with me.) I dislike that he thinks that he is above criticism of his opinions in T/OT because he is a valuable asset in the Tech Forum.
You seem to think that saying something the way it is shockingly terrible. GOD FORBID that we call a spade a spade. That would ruin the sainthood that we grant people in life!
You have heartburn over me waving good-bye????? Why? That was rude in your book? I waved good-bye as a way of showing how childish Jazzman is being.
Jazzman does in fact dish it out in T/OT, but he does not expect that he should be able to receive it back.
I'm really not sure why you are continuing to instigate an argument with Phranc and me? You calling Phranc and me trolls what the epitome of a troll post in itself.
Once again, I don't give a rat's ass or a squirrel's left nut what you do with this PM. I would recommend that you actually let some things sink in:
Jazzman is not a saint.
Jazzman ledt on his own accord and as a martyr.
No one forced Jazzman off the board.
No one hates Jazzman or has a "bead on" Jazzman
I have noticed Jazzman sometimes spouts off (imho 5% of what he posts) but when people like you and pranc spout off in 90% of your posts, and I am NOT the only one here who notices, people dont notice the 5% person, they notice the constant troll for flame wars by the 90% person.
Cliff, is there something you can add in "New Topics" that dont allow certain persons to post in started topics, some way to try and avoid more serious discussions distroyed by people with nothing better to do than flame?
We must not forget that we are all here to share in the open exchange of ideas and opinions. These will differ from time to time but if the decussion in kept on the subject and not on the person who makes the post its easy to get along. I've been posting here since 2000 and thankfully the discussion normally remains civil

Right, because censorship is a great thing in a forum. You don't have to like how I post something or my response to a topic, but censorship and prohibiting a person from posting is not the best answer.

Wow. Just wow. I wish I had the "Holier than thou art" characteristic that you and Patrick carry around. Now you are trying to keep members of a PUBLIC forum from posting in threads that are more "serious". My suggestion is if you have "serious" discussions that you only want people in your circle of trust posting on, do it over PM. Would you like us to surrender our guns too, Mr. Senator?
MY GOD........I go away on a business trip to Arizona for 3 days and come back to Armageddon !!! All I can say is wow. I had the same dilemna a long time ago about leaving the forum but the overwhelming response in email and PM's made me realize how great the members are here. Even when I get into little arguements with members over topics, I usually PM them to let them know that I have no issue with them....it's just a good arguement for the screen and adds fuel to the thread. Hopefully the members in question will remain here as they are great people with great knowledge about Fieros.
BOH, I appreciate that you recognize that I have made some effort to become a better citizen of this forum. Although, I think that I have behaved myself fairly well from Jumpstreet, otherwise Cliff would have punched my ticket and I would be banned. He's done it before, when I have had a much greener bar then this. I have fought back at some nasty accusations and slams, mostly by the same green bar heavy bullies that seem to mix it up with JazzMan (who seems to have no love for me either), but I can't tell you how many times I hit the back button instead of submit.
I do have a question for you, what brought on your red flag on me in the first place? Did I wrong you personally somehow?
I personally would like to see any thread tagged "political", to have a set shelf life. That is, a predetermined # of replies, and then it automatically gets locked. And, tho I like OT, and do post there a lot, it wouldn't bother me a bit to wake up tomorrow and find it had disappeared from the forum--or at least find all political aspects of it disappear.

I actually cannot remember, but I am not one to give out negs in the first place, even pranc and aceman took awhile to get negs.
After being on this forum for only a short time, I do not post much since I am so new to the Fiero and not able to work on mine. I have come to enjoy the tech articles I find of interest and save some to my favorites to look in on time to time. All of the bashing I generally skip over to get back to the main topic of the thread. Most people on these car or truck forums, I have been on a few, want what I want; Information, ideas and help with problems. I will continue sitting back and watching and waiting until I can actually get to work on my Fiero. I am sure I will have questions and will find this forum to be most helpful. Hopefully there will be less crap from instigators when I do have a question. Thanks Cliff.
Holy crap I can't believe this crap is now spewed into General. What the hell is wrong with you people? Some of you are blaming the forums moderation for this? Hello! The forum works phenomenally well. Get some freaking perspective idiots. Do you ever bother to look at the amount of threads and posts and traffic this site gets? You're idiots.
If you want to complain about something then complain about something that has an actual sustainable argument. Something that won't get you called an idiot like veterans vs newbies. People like Jazzman or I can say anything want for instance:like calling you idiots and it really doesn't matter. The chance of us caring is nil. Some with not so many rates are semi protected but if they get a few people riled they could be in trouble. Now that doesn't exactly promote free speech or really relative fair speech does it. I don't know if it is really a horrible problem that needs to be addressed but if you want at least an argument with some basis there you go. Moderation is not a problem here. Get over it, RFT is not the answer.

Something else I'd like to mention. I happen to think Ace is an ******* but he is dead on right about Jazz. I have less problem with assholes than I do with calculative crybabies. Jazzman did this with design and has caused harm to a forum he otherwise has helped.
It surprises me that they would bicker in the first place. We're supposed to be adults with the ability to communicate without showing disrespect to those we're communicating with. Just a thought.

That's so cute. Just like Stimpy has Toddster tracking any new ratings on him....I have Patrick, aka Mr. Hypocrite, tracking ratings on me. Thank you Mr. Hypocrite!
Now, Patrick, as you wish. I'll just post my comments on you here. Your remarks have been quite hypocritical to Hulki and to me. You've been very uncivil to him, Phranc and me. That's no way to earn your Civility Policeman's Badge. But it's a great way to shine up the other badge you wear of being Mr Hypocrite.
the usual suspects jumping in, insisting on voicing their opinions that no one really wants to read, trashing another thread. Cliff, just delete this one. don't give them another place to feed.
What does the "P" in PM stand for? Is it public? Any one who is going to post PMs for all to see has about as much integrity as a pile of steaming poop.
Do we really need someone of this crassness within our community?
You chose to take it there when you donned your Forum Guardian Angel halo and opened your orifice to let me know that my opinion doesn't matter because I've only been here a "grand total of four months". When I spoke in the forum, it was to the people leaving, not to you. But as usual, that huge, protruding appendage attached to your cranium, got into my Kool-Aid.
Oh and I love the whole lookey what Hulki sent to me in PM; see he is a bad man. Bad Bad Hulki. Now everybody agree with me so I feel important.

Are those, by chance, the same ones that comment about integrity?

Oh, the poor little victim...
That's not what I stated at all, but let's not have the facts stop you from having a good time. Twist what I said around and use it for your fun and games, fine. You've got the “classy” members of the forum now backing you apparently. Funny how that works.
There's nothing special about PMs. There's no written or unwritten rule about keeping them a big dark secret.
PMs don’t give people carte blanche to send whatever (pardon the pun) crap they want without fear of being revealed.
If anyone is concerned about the abusive contents of the PMs they send being made public, then perhaps they shouldn’t send them in the first place.
No its not a surprise coming from me. I tend to point out when people like you do what you just did. And there is something special about PMs its in the "P" part.
But thank you for you lame excuse for doing the not so civil thing and showing us that you lack integrity. You only compound that lack buy trying to justify it.
If you don't have the integrity and honesty to keep private things private maybe you should block PMs. I personally would advise people not to send them to you since you obviously can't be trusted as evident in your actions.
